CHARITY/FUNDRAISING/FOSTERING
Safe Pet Program
This is an incredibly important program of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association to help victims of domestic violence find foster care for their pets while they seek help at women's shelters. Volunteers register to be foster homes with their local vet clinic. If you are looking for a way to help animals and abused women, this is it!
www.spaycentral.com
Help is needed to fund the GTA's first low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter clinic! Unfortunately, cost is often a factor in people not spaying or neutering their pets. This clinic will address that problem, and funds are desperately needed to make this a reality! Spaycentral Toronto is a registered charity, and donations over $20 will get a tax receipt.
farleyfoundation.org
The Farley Foundation helps sick and injured pets who belong to low-income seniors and people with disabilities. The Foundation offers financial assistance to veterinary clinics in Ontario to help cover the cost of providing necessary veterinary care for pets belonging to seniors receiving the Federal Guaranteed Income Supplement or people with disabilities who receive the Ontario Disability Support Payment, and who cannot otherwise afford treatment for their pets.
RabiesChallengeFund.org
Vaccine manufacturers have not been required to provide long-term duration of immunity studies for the rabies vaccine, and obviously, it is in their economic interests to have the vaccine required every 1 or 3 years. Because so many health problems are associated with the rabies vaccine, some of them life-threatening, a grass-roots effort in the U.S. raised money to begin the funding of challenge studies to determine long-term duration of the canine rabies vaccine. This study focusses on the canine vaccine, but will undoubtedly affect the understanding of the feline vaccine as well. Ongoing donations from the public are required to fund the study through to completion.
